2025 Tony Renning SHRM Scholarship

The Oshkosh Area SHRM established this scholarship fund, which was recently renamed in memory of Tony Renning, one of the Chapter’s co-founders, to honor his legacy and support the growth of future HR professionals. The Oshkosh Area SHRM Chapter is dedicated to serving the needs of HR professionals and advancing the profession of HR management in the Oshkosh, Wisconsin area. To advance the HR profession, we not only need to assist HR professionals, but develop and support the students in the Oshkosh area interested and currently studying to enter the HR world.

We appreciate your interest in developing your potential career in HR and the 2025 Tony Renning Memorial Scholarship. Please read the following information regarding the details of this scholarship and follow all instructions carefully when completing the application.

Application Criteria:

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate program in the upcoming 2025 Fall Semester with the intent to focus on a career in Human Resource Management. 
  • Students must have a local residence (ie. live within 30 mile radius of Oshkosh) or be enrolled in classes at a post-secondary institution with a Human Resource Management degree program within a 30 mile radius of Oshkosh. 
  • While it is not required, an optimal applicant will be involved in their student SHRM chapter, local SHRM chapter and/or be a national SHRM member.

Scholarship Award: $1,000

Application Deadline: Applications will be accepted from March 13, 2025 through April 11, 2025.

Application Process: In order for your application to be considered, please complete all the following steps:

  • Complete the scholarship application.
  • Write a brief essay explaining why chose human resources as your career, what unique qualities you bring to the human resources profession and any human resources experience you may have.
  • The modern workplace is more diverse than ever, with multiple generations working side by side. Each group brings unique perspectives, experiences, and work styles. While this diversity can be a strength, it also presents challenges in communication, collaboration, and workplace expectations. Please write a brief essay answering the following question: How can organizations foster collaboration and understanding among employees from different generations to create a more inclusive and productive work environment? Provide specific strategies or examples to support your response.
  • Attach a copy of your current unofficial transcripts.
  • Attach a copy of your most recent resume.
